There are now just 29 days until Celtic kick off their 2026/27 competitive season, opening the Premiership campaign at home to Dundee. By tomorrow, that countdown will stand at exactly four weeks.
On paper, that should be an exciting moment. Supporters should be eagerly anticipating new signings, fresh competition for places and a squad beginning to take shape for another title challenge and another crack at Europe.
Instead, the feeling around the club is one of growing frustration.
It’s now been 44 days since Celtic’s last competitive match – the 3-1 Scottish Cup Final victory over Dunfermline. In those six weeks, the first-team picture has barely changed.
The club have signed two 16-year-olds for the Celtic B team, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s contract has been renewed after he was already at the club. Those are the only notable additions to the squad.
Perhaps the most worrying statistic of all is this:
Celtic are currently the only SPFL club yet to make a first-team signing this summer.

No one expects a club to complete every deal overnight, but with 29 days until the league begins and 44 days having passed since Celtic last played competitively, the lack of urgency is becoming impossible to ignore.
Supporters have backed this club through every transfer window, but patience isn’t unlimited.
