“Learned my lesson today. Never fly @FlyFrontier even if it’s the only direct flight available. Genuinely look for multi-stop redeye flights before flying with them. I’m still not sure where my bags are and I’m in the wrong city somehow.”
That was the message from Alistair Johnston after what sounds like one of the most chaotic travel days imaginable.
The Canadian defender wasn’t making his way back to Celtic at the time, but his journey took an unexpected turn when he somehow ended up in the wrong city while his luggage disappeared along the way.
It’s every traveller’s worst nightmare. Delays are frustrating enough, but landing somewhere you never intended to be, without your bags, takes things to another level.
Thankfully, Johnston was able to laugh about it and shared the story with his usual good humour. The post quickly got plenty of attention from supporters, with many sympathising while also enjoying the bizarre nature of the situation.
Celtic fans will simply be hoping the dependable right-back has better luck on his next journey. After all, he’s one player nobody wants taking any unnecessary detours once pre-season preparations are in full swing.
Sometimes footballers make headlines on the pitch. This time, Alistair Johnston managed it simply by ending up in the wrong city. Hopefully both he and his luggage are reunited soon.
