For the first time this summer, Celtic’s attacking options are beginning to look like they’re moving in the right direction.⁷
Martin O’Neill has confirmed that Celtic have made an offer to Kelechi Iheanacho. Whether the former Premier League striker accepts remains to be seen, but the fact an offer is on the table is another positive step in rebuilding a forward line that desperately needed strengthening.
Add Iheanacho to the arrivals of Camilo Duran and Callum Osmand, and there are finally signs of a clear plan taking shape.
Duran arrives as one of the club’s brightest young prospects, while Osmand has built a reputation as a clinical goalscorer with plenty of potential. If Iheanacho signs, Celtic would also be adding proven quality and experience. He has played at the highest level and could provide the immediate impact supporters have been crying out for.
Compared to where Celtic were just a few weeks ago, the picture looks far healthier.
However, I still believe the club should go one step further.
The demands of the Premiership, domestic cups and European football require genuine strength in depth. Injuries and loss of form are inevitable over a long season, and we’ve already seen what happens when Celtic leave themselves short in attacking areas.
I’d still like to see one more striker arrive before the transfer window closes. Someone with experience, physical presence and the ability to challenge immediately for a starting place.
If Celtic can complete the signing of Iheanacho and add one more quality centre-forward, the criticism of the club’s lack of firepower at the start of the summer will quickly disappear.
For weeks, supporters questioned the planning behind Celtic’s recruitment. Now, with Duran, Osmand and a formal offer for Iheanacho, the forward line is finally beginning to come together.
One more signing would turn a promising attack into one capable of competing on every front.
