IF THE CELTIC BOARD HAD ANY COMMUNICATION SKILLS, THEY COULD RELEASE SOMETHING LIKE THIS…
There comes a point where silence stops looking dignified and starts looking weak. Celtic supporters have spent days watching sections of the Scottish media and certain pundits push an exaggerated and inflammatory narrative surrounding the title celebrations at Celtic Park — and the club has allowed it to continue virtually unchallenged.
Not one shred of verified evidence has emerged showing assaults on Hearts players, despite the language used by commentators and media figures suggesting otherwise. Terms such as “attack” and “assault” have been casually thrown around without proof, fuelling hostility towards Celtic supporters and creating a moral panic completely disproportionate to the reality of what occurred.
Even more absurd has been the promotion of claims surrounding a supposed “missing minute” — speculation presented as fact without evidence.
Pitch invasions after title wins happen across world football. Yet when Celtic supporters celebrate, sections of the media instantly resort to outrage, hysteria and sensationalism.
If the club had any desire to defend its supporters from this coordinated smear campaign, they could release something like the following:
STATEMENT FROM CELTIC FOOTBALL CLUB
Celtic Football Club is deeply concerned by the sensationalist and inflammatory coverage surrounding the post-match celebrations following our title victory at Celtic Park.
While the club recognises the importance of supporter safety and orderly conduct, we cannot ignore the level of speculation, exaggeration and irresponsible commentary that has dominated public discussion in recent days.
Serious allegations have been widely circulated despite no verified evidence being produced to support claims of assaults on opposition players. Celtic supporters are entitled to fairness and objectivity, not inflammatory rhetoric presented as fact.
We are also aware of speculative narratives regarding a supposed “missing minute” being discussed publicly without evidence. Celtic Football Club believes it is irresponsible for conjecture and assumption to be treated as established fact.
Football celebrations of this nature are not unique to Celtic and occur regularly across world football. Context, balance and perspective are essential.
The overwhelming majority of Celtic supporters were celebrating passionately and peacefully, and the club will always stand against attempts to unfairly demonise our fanbase through sensationalism and selective reporting.
We urge all those commenting publicly on these events to do so responsibly and with the accuracy such serious accusations demand.
Celtic Football Club will continue to stand proudly with our supporters, whose passion and backing remain the foundation of this football club.
