I sincerely hope I’m wrong, but I can’t shake the feeling that Daizen Maeda has already played his last game for Celtic.
The growing reports linking Fulham with a move for the Japanese international, coupled with Maeda’s own admission that he would like to test himself in one of Europe’s top five leagues, make this feel like far more than idle transfer speculation.
If Fulham come in with an offer that matches Celtic’s valuation, I think the club will sell.
That would be a huge blow.
Maeda isn’t just another winger. His relentless pressing, blistering pace, tireless work rate and ability to change games have made him one of Celtic’s most important players. He sets the standard every time he pulls on the shirt, and replacing those qualities will be anything but straightforward.
If he does leave, the board simply cannot repeat the mistakes of previous transfer windows. Any replacement must already be identified and ready to come in before Celtic sanction a sale. Waiting until late August would leave the squad weaker at exactly the wrong time, with crucial European qualifiers and the new season already underway.
I’d love nothing more than to be completely wrong. I’d love to see Daizen Maeda back in the Hoops, chasing every lost cause, lifting the supporters off their seats and giving absolutely everything for the badge, just as he always has.
But right now, I have a sinking feeling that we’ve already witnessed his final appearance for Celtic. If that’s the case, it won’t just be the end of an outstanding player’s time at the club. It will be the loss of a warrior, a fan favourite and someone who embodied everything supporters want to see in a Celtic shirt.
Some players score goals. Others leave memories that last a lifetime. For me, Daizen Maeda belongs firmly in the second category. I just hope those memories aren’t all we have left.

How in the name of God did you get a job doing this. Obviously it’s for money but at least you could try and give a toss! Nobody gives a damn what you think, you absolute tube
Kieran fella, I think you should go and have a lie down in a dark room. Something really has got to you and I genuinely don’t think it is Philip’s blog posts.
You aren’t even making sense! Is everything ok?!
