TRANSFER NEWS: Celtic Step Up Devine Pursuit

Reports from journalist Pete O’Rourke suggest Celtic have stepped up their interest in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Alfie Devine, with a deal potentially worth around £6 million being discussed.

At just 21 years old, Devine has already packed plenty into his young career and is regarded as one of England’s brightest midfield prospects.

His most recent loan spell at Preston North End could be the clearest indication yet that he is ready for the next step.

During the 2025/26 Championship season, Devine made 45 league appearances, scoring 8 goals and providing 6 assists. Across all competitions, he featured 48 times, scoring 8 goals, while also helping Preston with his creativity and energy in midfield. His performances earned him the club’s Young Player of the Year award.

Before that, he gained valuable experience at KVC Westerlo, scoring 6 goals and adding 1 assist in 30 Belgian Pro League appearances, while earlier loan spells at Plymouth Argyle and Port Vale further developed his game.

Many supporters will remember Devine becoming Tottenham’s youngest-ever player and goalscorer after scoring on his senior debut in the FA Cup.

For Celtic, this looks like exactly the type of signing supporters have been crying out for—a young, attack-minded midfielder with proven senior experience, impressive numbers and significant resale potential.

At a reported £6 million, it would be a major statement of intent from a club still waiting to make its first major summer signing.

If the reports are accurate, Alfie Devine could be the spark that finally kick-starts Celtic’s transfer window.
